Author Messages Oldest First Newest First jon powell Posts:1 02/26/2008 1:52 PM   ive noticed some people have fitted automatic bilge pumps, is this legal, i wondered if it would be allowed under 6.1.13 additional safety equipment. if not legal should we allow it as not expensive or heavy. The exposure with allowing one is that some owners would attempt to exploit the opportunity to move excessive weight into the bilge area. If there are owners who have a good arrangement for a removable bilge pump it would be really helpful to those in need if they would share pictures and drawings via a post on this forum. Lorne Chapman Posts:142 07/14/2008 1:51 PM   In this discussion my comments may have created some confusion. The issue is manual vs powered bilge pumps. Manual bilge pumps - both hand-held and permanently mounted have always been in use in the class and are perfectly legal as long as they comply with rules 3.1.4 and 3.2.8 d). The electric bilge pumps (what I had in mind when I made the earlier comment) have not been an issue to date. They certainly are a convenience in areas where it rains a lot. At this point we ask measurers to make sure the electric pumps are of a reasonable size for the boat and that the weight is not enough to be seen as an attempt to place weight low in the boat. If this becomes an issue we will fix it through the class rules.
