J/24 Fleet 141 and the local sailing clubs are working with the Navy ROTC High School Program at West Mesa High in Albuquerque NM. They just picked up a J/24 and they are in need of some equipment. They need a #10 deck winch, a spinnaker pole and a winch handle. I'm donating a trailer and the fleet is comming up with the sheets and fenders, along with all the small required equipment. If anyone can help, please reply. Thanks, Rich Strasia |

I have an older spin pole (straight pole with bridles) that I would be willing to part with. I live So. Colorado. Steve |

Steve, that would be a very great help. Do you know Ralph Taylor? He is with SAIL and comes down to Albuquerque from time to time and he offered to haul stuff for these kids with him. His 'E' mail is rt-sails@comcast.net If that is not an option, please send COD to me at; Rich Strasia, 546 Hwy. 165, Placitas, New Mexico 87043. Again, Thanks a whole bunch. |

Thanks, Rich Strasia Since this post went out, we have obtained a spinnaker pole, a mast setting gin pole, winch handle, a motor mount, a loose gauge, some line and some repairs to the J/24. We still need fenders, a motor and we are looking for a trailer. This Navy ROTC program is up and running with 7 Lasers, two Buccaneers and a Sun Fish. They have 150 high school kids in the program and I think it's a one of a kind in New Mexico. They are in fact a 401 C3 group, so your donation is tax deductable and much appreciated. Thanks, Rich S. Rich, How did the spinnaker pole work out? Sorry I was not available to meet with you when you stopped by. Stay in touch and perhaps I will bring my boat down your way next summer for a long weekend. Steve Clough USA2366 |

Posted By Sue and Rich Strasia on 10/11/2006 12:25 AM Thanks Steve, we had a chance to give it a work out and all went well. Thanks so much again. Rich S. as you all can see, the program is up and running well. the boat was set up today by the JROTC kids and they set the mast using their new gin-pole. This alone is a big thing for them to learn. The boat is on display for the West Mesa High School (Albuquerque NM) open house and is turning out to be a big attraction. Talk about math and physics application, they can really get into this now. We still need a #10 winch (cabin top) and a motor, so if there are any around, please let us know. Thanks, Rich S. |
