Hope not. Just put in a call to Eric to find out where the J/24 forum is. Stay tuned and keep checking. Nancy Zangerle |

I have been unable to reach the Sailing Source forums for at least a week now... Does anyone have a backup of the messages? There was some very useful information posted there. - Rich |

I have a backup through at least 2003. Occasionally, there is a problem with the host server (it has happened in the past). Eric was checking into it, but we still don't know why its not up. Nancy Z |

So, what's up with our forums??? If the Sailing Source forums are not gonna come back up then we should establish new J/24 forums somewhere else. There are a number of free message board services available on the web. Also, when you go to the Sailing Source main page they have a link to Contact them - but that's dead too. Are these guys in business any more? - Rich |

| Why dont we just switch to this forum? Being the International site it would probably be useful for all. If someone could get me a backup of the old site I could attempt to convert it into this forums format or at least something searchable. I write software for a living and have done more than one nasty data conversion project in my life! There was so much valuable info on that site I would hate to see it disapear (especially as new boat owner doing a restoration). |

Ugh... that's bad. That was a goldmine of information. Mind that you had to sift a bit to find the nuggets though... But, gone is gone. So, let's move forward. Several thoughts come to my mind: - It would be great if the IJCA posted a notice that the old forums are officially gone and take away the link to them. That'll let people know what's going on. - Does the IJCA want this forum to become the new central forum for the J/24 community? Are they ready to administer this area regularly - or bring in volunteer admins? - What form is Nancy's 2003 SS forum backup? What's the best way to republish it? - Are there any technical issues with using this forum? It sometimes seems a bit slow to navigate for me, but maybe that's a personal opinion. OTOH, this setup seems to have an area for posting document files - that's handy and I don't usually see that on free forums. Another downside I see is no rich text editing here - is that significant? I'm glad to help! - Rich Taylor J/24 #140 (http://www.imageevent.com/taylorpix/j24work) |

Hi Nancy, Once you get back from the J/24 Womans Championships, can you look into getting your backup onto this forum so we at least have something from the old forum site to refer back to??? |

Nancy, If you can get me the backup you have I can make an attempt to convert it into a format we can use. Scott |

I will try to make a copy of the CD I have. I appreciate any attempt. Please email me your snail mail information. The bigger question is - do we want an Open Forum, such as we had before (albeit with better housekeeping) or are you comfortable using this new forum on the IJCA website? Personally, I find this format rather bothersome and burdensome to use (log on, etc.) Maybe its because I'm old and was so comfortable with the old forum (even with the dated information). The Sailing Source Forum seemed to encourage spontaneous responses - hence - it became a great gathering place for information and dialogues of all kinds. Despite some perceptions from the international scene, I was always able to find evidence that the Sailing Source Forum was being utilized and followed by J/24 sailors around the world. I need to hear from the Class members on what they want to see. You can email me at nzangerle@yahoo.com Nancy Z |

Nancy, I agree. I like this format but the SSF was much easier to use, navigate, and post topics and comments. There was literally years of posts listed on the SSF and it was always easy to find the thread you were looking for. |

Nancy, I sent you an email with my snailmail address. The best thing that registration gets you is name recognition. When you dont register you can post many times with different names and people cant always know who was actually posting. I actively participate in about 6 forums and casually participate in another 8-10 and all of them require logins. It allows people to keep track of the true experts versus those that may be hacks, you start to trust some members more becasue of the number of posts they have and the quality of some of thier answers. One thing that would help a lot here is if the "Remember Login" feature of this site actually worked. Most of the sites I go to I log in once and almost never have to log into again (unless I clear my cookies or switch computers). |

A copy of the backup (unfortunately from 2002, not 2003 like I thought) is on its way to Scott. There's still a massive amount of good information. Hopefully, Scott can find a way to resurrect. Nancy Z |
