Subject: Michigan District Split

Can anyone explain why east and west michigan is split? I'm from Northern Michigan and would like to see michigan combined with the district 12. While Chicago events are convenient for S/W MI..the balance of MI don't share that venue...much less WI/MN.

Would there be any advantage/disadvantage to putting all of Michigan in 12?

I'm not sure why the split. I am in District 12 and try to participate in the D-15 regattas if they are close (meaning not on the west side of Lake Michigan).
I think it would be a good idea to have Lake Michigan as the dividing line. The East and West coast of Michigan is only seperated by a 3-3.5 hour drive. I think participation on both coasts would be up if we were all in the same District.

The only downside of moving the District line West would be the boats that are located in in Ohio. They may not be interested in traveling an additional 3 hours to participate in District events. Currently the D-12 events are located between Detroit and Cleveland which is only a 3 hour drive.

On another note... The Great Lakes Championships are in the Detroit area this year. This will serve as a 2 berth allocation Regatta for all boats within District 7, 12, & 15.
The GLC Committee has been hard at work planning this regatta and it sounds like they are going all out to make this one of the best J/24 events of the year!

Spar Wars will be there!!! As well as Muskegon. I'll be traveling 4 hrs to Muskegon...hope to see a good turnout. Great place to sail.

can we get a count of the boats planning to do Muskegon for 2007??

Don't Panic should hopefully be there if I can get the boat measured in time. Our local measurer is trying to put it off for awhile. I might be able to get 2 more boats from PHYC--JAM and Rasta Rebel. I should see them both this weekend.
