PROPOSAL:
To delete the current Rule and replace with:
There shall be a minimum of 2 litres of motor fuel carried in reserve when the boat crosses the finish line for the last race of the day.
CURRENT POSITION:
A minimum of one container of a type as required by the national authority or local regulations with a minimum of 2 litres of motor fuel.
REASON:
1) To simplify the Rules
2) To maintain safety fuel reserve
COMMENTS:
Recommended by the Technical Committee

So on a long day chasing the race officer around the bay at what point does the fleet protest the race officer because they are being forced to use their last two litres of fuel to follow him around?
Can't see this beeing helpful although the sentiment is well-meaning.

As written, this proposal leave to much guess work. Essentially, one would have to guess how much motoring will take place thoughout the day and fill the reserve tank to ensure there is enough fuel to meet the requirement. As the other commentor has said, who wants to tie their destiny to chasing the race committee for the day? I'm opposed to the change

My response is on behalf of 12 of the 23 polled Lake George - Fleet 24 members. The majority response is . . . to not change the rule. Discussion: That is like saying the crew weight can't be more than they weighed at the start of the regatta.

A quick note on this, if you honestly cut it that close by not carrying enough fuel for the given conditions you deserve to be tossed. It is not the committees problem it is yours, carry an extra 2 liters which is most likely the equivalent of 45 minutes of motor run time. Besides what happens when you really need the motor and you decided an extra 3 kgs of gas weight wasn't worth it.

If I read the rule correctly it is a minor safety improvement. I presume "in reserve"' means your total fuel supply which might be partially in the motor's tank and partly in an extra tank. Under the present rule only the fuel in your exta container counts - your motor's tank could be full or empty. That sometimes creates the unhealthy incentive to have your motor's tank empty.
