J/24 Sailing in the Pan Am Games

The J/24 has once again been chosen as one of the prestigious classes to be used in the Pan Am Games. An estimated 5,500 athletes from 42 countries are expected to compete in 28 sports at the 2007 Pan American Games, which will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from July 13-29, 2007. The sailing competition will be held at the Glória Marina in the Guanabara Bay. The Pan American Games are held every four years, historically one year before the Olympic Games. The first Pan American Games were held in 1951 in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Chris Snow Wins 2007 North American Championship

Chris Snow (San Diego, CA) won the 2007 J/24 North American Championship held at the California Yacht Club in Marina del Rey, California on July 10-14. His team consisted of Nick von der Wense (Annapolis, MD) tactics, Brian Bissell (Annapolis, MD) mast, Brian Goepfrich (Lake Tahoe, CA) trim, and Andrew Kerr (Seattle, WA) bow.

2007 Great Lakes Championship

Despite competition from two J-24 weddings in nearby Rochester, Oswego Yacht Club drew 14 J-24’s for the championship.  The local entries numbered seven while others came from Skaneateles, Toronto, Lake George, Ithaca, and Sodus Bay.

 

The J-24’s sailed west of the harbor under the direction of Sodus Bay Yacht Club’s Mike Mincher, serving as PRO.  All competing boats were weighed under Charlie Krylo’s watchful eye, while Charlie’s wife Inta weighed the crews.  Tom Doran measured sails at the local middle school gym.

J 24 Class Associations of Europe combine to present new European Championship Trophy

London- 3rd July 2007 – The J24 Class Associations of Europe, representing the leading fleets from across the Continent have agreed to re-present the John Adams Trophy for the first European boat at the Neustadt, Germany, European Championships.

The Europeans are to be held as part of the Rolex Baltic Cup Week. At least 300 sailors, from ten countries, racing 60 boats, are expected at the Ancora Marina, including the current Brazilian World Champion, Mauricio Santa Cruz and reigning European Champion, Ian Southworth of Great Britain.
