Casale Wins J/24 Worlds

 

(Cannigione, Italy) -- The Italian boat Fiamma Gialla of Andrea Casale won the 2008 J/24 World Championship title in Cannigione, Italy. Andrea Casale and his crew of Fabio Montefusco, Ernesto Angeletti, Vittorio Rosso and Enzo di Capua took the title amongst the 76-strong fleet competing in Cannigione during June.

The Italians, consistent throughout the regatta, secured the title when the final day of racing was abandoned due to Mistral winds of over 30 knots. Canada’s Rossi Milev took second place on Serco, with Hedgehog skippered by Great Britain’s Ian Southworth in third. Defending World Champion Mauricio Santa Cruz of Brazil finished in fifth place overall.

 

Casale’s World Championship victory is his first in the J/24 class, and comes just 13 days after his won his fifth Italian title on the same waters of Arzachena.
