WORLD COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES
From The Chairman

All Class members are requested to read the Minutes of the WCM recently held in Malmo Sweden. They are to be found under  Organisation  and World Council in the above menu.

I would like you to note in particular  the following:

The Actions approved by the WCM provide the Authority for the Executive Committee and International Technical Committee to move forward these issues in the year up to the next WCM. Please know what these actions are and be prepared to help in bringing them to fruition. It is advisable also to have read the Class Strategy Paper, also on this website, so you can understand the longer term proposals for Class development.

There are a number of exciting Regattas Worldwide planned for 2010. Be sure you know where and where they are NOW so you can get your teams up and running in good time, thus greatly helping the Organising Authorities.

Marketing and Promotion of the Class is very  difficult in a period of economic downturn. Can you help.? There may be people in the Class with marketing skills, please come forward.!!  National J24 Class Associations are required to nominate a National Marketing and Promotion person to the Chair, unless the National Secretary can perform the task him or herself. It was most disappointing to note that our Class Magazine was not produced this year primarily due to lack of input. Input of this nature, like most aspects of our Class Administration comes as  no surprise, it happens every year at the same time. Please read the Annual List of Returns in the Class Documents section and comply, it will really help the Class Officials.

Of concern were the 2 disciplinary issues at item 9 of the Agenda  which had to be handled by the World Council. The first involved a Class member in Italy who was unable to comply with the Class Regatta Regulations which are by laws, and also behaved in a manner unacceptable to the International Class. The second, in the USA involved  the provision of a World Championship Charterboat  which did not comply with Class rules. The lessons in both cases are, know your International Class Constitution, Rules and By Laws and abide by them.

Finally, I would like to stress that communication remains the name of the game, and if you have comments or ideas, please make them known through your National or International Class officials so we can evaluate them quickly and correctly.

Best Wishes,
Bob Turner

Chairman, International J24 Class
