Registration has just gone live, and we are now accepting payment on line at http://www.mardigrasraceweek.org/
Hello world – time to make room for us because Mardi Gras Race Week has arrived! Our scratch sheets and records are getting long – in a quick three years – unprecedented classes of Vipers, Vanguards and Finns are now racing New Orleans for carnival. Mardi Gras Race Week is what happens when you mix in the Worlds Biggest Free Show on Earth, spice it with healthy servings of our legendary food & unrivaled music and then christen the pot liquor with three days of exceptional racing – call it the trinity of sailing. And guess what, all we’re doing is asking for you.
The New Orleans Yacht Club requests your presence for three days of hard core racing… and oh yeah, four nights of partying New Orleans style, or come early and party through Mardi Gras then hit the water. With Mardi Gras culminating on Fat Tuesday, February 21, 2012, the best sailors will just not let the party end and will roll through their hangovers, create new ones and rock the week with some monster one-design racing. The 2011 MGRW saw the first fleet of Vipers ever assembled on the lake en masse and the top crews included sailors from 5 nations battling it out at New Orleans’ West End. This year promises to come on even stronger with MGRW under consideration as the midwinter sites for several classes. But hey, don’t ask us, ask the guys and gals who’ve already done Mardi Gras Race Week…
This was the best regatta of the year, last year. Hands down. So there was no way I was going to miss it this Mardi Gras.”
– US Sailing Team’s Andy Casey
