Eight Bells: Steve Tupper

September 15, 2016

Steve Tupper, an IJ from Vancouver who was a tremendous help to the J/24 Class, passed away in August. There will be an internment at sea service at the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club on October 15 at 1:30 PT. Steve was on the jury for the World Championship held in Puerto Vallarta. We were trying to introduce the scoring penalty to the Class and encountered difficulties with the sailors and other Jury members. Steve helped us get the procedures worked out and how to put them into effect. Lorne Chapman spent a number of breakfasts with Steve as they refined the details that carried over into the next North American Championship. Steve Chaired the ISAF Rules Committee for a number of years and influenced many improvements.
