On October 17th and the 18th was the 2009 J/24
Southeast Regional Championships hosted by the Florida Yacht Club.
This is the Southeastern regional qualifier for 2010 J/24 World
Championship in Malmo, Sweden. The winner of the regatta qualifies
for Malmo. Helmsman Scott Griffin skippering the boat Team Tarheel,
sailing for the Bream Yacht Club of Jacksonville, FL, crushed
the competition. Team Tarheel’s skipper is Peter Bream.
Due to a back injury, he was unable to captain his crew. Scott
Griffin beat the second place finisher USA 799 skippered by Robby
Brown with a point total under half the total of USA 799 after
racing seven races. Scott Griffin finished first in five of the
races with a third place finish in the first race (which they
dropped) and a second place finish in the second race giving them
the winning score of seven. The way the ISAF Low Point Scoring
System works is the highest place finish is thrown out and the
winner is determined by the lowest total score of the other races.
