the World Qualifying Rules Now Posted.
The J/24 World Championships are coming to
the United States. In the fall of 2004, the Noroton Yacht Cub in Noroton,
Connecticut will host one of the premier events in one-design sailing.
This is your chance to compete against the best in the world!
Number of Available Berths to the 2004 Worlds
Entry to the J/24 Worlds is restricted to those who have qualified through
their home country. Entries per country are determined by the total number
of paid J/24 Class Members in that country on the following system.

IJCA Memberships + 1
The U.S. J/24 Class has around 1200 paid Class Members
annually allowing for 8 berths to the World Championships. However the
J/24 Class rules state, “At each World Championship, the Host
NJCA shall be allowed three (3) times its normal number of Qualifiers.
NJCAs in the same continent or hemisphere shall be allowed (2) times its
normal number of qualifiers.”
This means that in 2004 the U.S. is expected to have 24 berths
available at the World Championships in Noroton.
Which Regattas Count as World Qualifying Events?
The U.S. Executive Committee has determined the following system for the
distribution of these berths: One berth for each of the 16 Districts,
one berth for each of the 5 Regional Championships, one berth for the
2003 U.S. National Championships, one berth for the 2004 Midwinter Championships,
and one berth for the U.S. Class President. Total = 24 berths.
Each District will determine by which means their District
berth will be allocated. The District may choose a single “District
Championship” regatta to be the qualifier, or in some cases a series
of events will be used as in the Texas Circuit. The Regional Championships
(Northeast, Southeast, Southwest, Western, and Great Lakes) are all single
regatta events.
