USJCA Promotes Youth Team Sailing
Newark, NJ – The USJCA Board of Governors
and Executive Committee are seeking petitions for the selection
of an all-youth boat (under 25) to represent the USJCA at the
2008 International J/24 World Championship in Cannigione, Sardinia,
Italy. The IJCA at its annual meeting awarded each member country
an additional World’s berth in 2008 and 2009 specifically for
an all-youth team.
The USJCA, in support of the new initiative,
adopted breakthrough financial incentives to encourage development
of all-youth teams. For 2008, the selected all-youth team will
be eligible for reimbursement of $1,000 upon completion of the
championship. In 2009, the USJCA will support all-youth teams
at Class championships (Districts, Regionals, Nationals, North
Americans) through reimbursement grants of up to $250. The grants
will be awarded on a competitive basis from a budget set aside
for this purpose. Criteria and application process is currently
being developed. Additional information will be posted on the
USJCA website at www.j24class.org/usa when it becomes available.
Any all-youth teams interested in applying for
the 2008 Worlds berth should submit their sailing resumes (for
helm and crew) to the USJCA office by December 31, 2007.
