J/24 1996 Spring Cup
Royal Western Yacht Club
11th/12th May

Fifteen boats took part in the J/24 Spring Cup, hosted by the Royal Western Yacht Club over the weekend of the 11th/12th May. Seven races were held in light to moderate South-Westerly winds. Stuart Jardine and his crew aboard Stouché, training for the World Championships in Sardinia, dominated the first day with three wins and a third, behind this points were close for five boats battling for the other top placings, with Simon Slater on RSJ just ahead of Geoff Jones and Daryl Conyers.

The second day started windless, but soon a freshening S-SW breeze came in. The day was again dominated by Stouché with two wins sealing the regatta, Simon Slater sailed consistently enough to clinch 2nd place overall from Daryl Conyers in 3rd.

Racing was handled superbly by David Warren, managing to fit all seven races into a weekend schedule with difficult winds. Craning for the away visitors was quick and easy, boding well for the European Championships in 1997 which are to be hosted by the Royal Western Yacht Club with the same principal race officer.
